22/07/10

The 26th Students’ Council of Anderson Junior College
On this 22nd July 2009,
Before this assembly
Of teachers and students of Anderson Junior College
Do hereby solemnly pledge;
That we shall be loyal and faithful
To the cause of our college;
That we will always cherish the best,
To be worthy of this trust placed on us,
That in the execution of our duties,
We shall never seek personal glory or rewards,
But always place the interest
Of our college above all,
Ever mindful of our motto:
Non Mihi Solum.

Exactly 1 year ago, I took this pledge, together with 38 friends and CCA-mates, awaiting a challenging and enriching year.

Today, together with my 26th SC family, I sat on stage looking down at the 27th SC. Their faces lights up with hope and pride :) Flashbacks accompanied by waves of emotions made it very hard to hold back the swelling tears.

Thank you for the memories we share, the bond we forge, the listening ears, the helping hands, the open hearts, the lessons we learn, the journey we accomplish. Thank you 26th and teachers, for everything :)

Goodbye :)

I was still zombie-ing when I heard you were leaving. I was utterly shocked and saddened by the bad news.
It was really difficult for me to accept this fact, let alone say goodbye. So I just sat there, trying to smile and holding back my tears during the 'closure' with us.
Ms Lee, I really don't want you to leave. You are a phenomenal individual. You command our admiration not because you are an LSE scholar and a Harvard graduate, but rather because you truly care for us. You did not have to do so much. Your charisma alone could easily win us over. Yet, you still put all your energy and enthusiasm into your lectures and tutorials. It really shows. And it moves us greatly.
Thank you for the wonderful and enriching one and a half year you spent with us :) We will definitely miss you!

Yesterday a clear horizon
Now the clouds are rollin' in it's disappeared
The one thing that i've always believed in
It's strange how right now it all seems so unclear

I consult my soul
And it tells me that it knows There's no doubt one day
I'm gunna fly
Gotta stand up, dust myself off
Just for now
It's the end of the road

When something ends Something begins,
But now it's just the end of the road
When someone loses someone wins
But now it's just the end of the road
Don't get to fix it if it doesn't break
But now it's just the end of the road
When you gotta leave
It makes you wanna stay
I know it's the end of the road
It's the end of the road

One line can change a story So sometimes let the line just be unsaid
Pride only thinks about the glory
And just the right now
And not the days ahead

I've held my breath
Walked on shells hoped for the best
What the future holds
I don't know
I've gotta stand up, dust myself off
Just for now
It's the end of the road

When something ends Something begins,
But now it's just the end of the road
When someone loses someone wins
But now it's just the end of the road
Don't get to fix it if it doesn't break
But now it's just the end of the road
When you gotta leave
It makes you wanna stay
I know it's the end of the road

I've been travelin'
Get the dust right off the windshield
No one gets the road map to their life
'Cause life is so subjective
I'll take my pain and I wanna protect it
Never blinds me always reminds me
There's so much more to see
At the end of the road

When something ends Something begins
Is this the end of the road? When someone loses
Someone wins
Is this the end of the road?

When something ends Something begins,
But now it's just the end of the road
When someone loses someone wins
But now it's just the end of the road
Don't get to fix it if it doesn't break
But now it's just the end of the road
When you gotta leave
It makes you wanna stay
I know it's the end of the road

Fear not, my friends.
For once God closes a door, He opens a window.

the first ever post :)

hi all,
happy Halloween to everyone. hope you all had a blast and fabulous celebration.
just a bit of an announcement, i just watched the first episode of Lan Litmitless show (found here) and i think its just amazing. i also followed her blog for a while. its truly an inspiration. as a result, i decided to start this blog of mine :) so, i hereby declare, this date of 31/10/09 shall be the start of my blog :)
a bit of background information, i write a lot. but i hardly ever share my writings publicly. i think its just a habit to keep my inner me to myself :) so this open-to-public blog thing is rather new to me. i shall start with some interesting findings i wanna share, some ideas i support or criticize, some inspiring messages i wanna spread.
hey all, thanks for dropping by and supporting my blog. hope you have a pleasant time.

so, in my first post, i'd like to share with you guys a short story that goes like this.

Chapter 1
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost… I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend that I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in this same place.
But, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter 3
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in … it’s a habit … but, my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter 4
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter 5
I walk down another street.

This poem is taken from Portia Nelson’s “There’s A Hole In My Sidewalk – a wonderful collection of insights into love and life.

the sad fact is, failure cannot be avoided. but you can of course limit the repetition of the same mistake. the sadder fact is, even if you put in your best and meticulously take measures to avoid failure, it can still happen. in any case, failure should not be a morale crusher. instead, failure should act as a strong motivator and a guiding force. dealing with failure involves lots of self-reflection. its easy to push the blame to your parents, your teachers, your partner, your background, your lack of experience, your lack of money, your blah blah blah. it just takes a great deal of courage to take responsibility of your own failure, and a strong determination to remain positive and stay committed to your cause. most importantly, it takes all your heart and mind to bounce back. good news is, surviving setbacks is an integral component of growth  and breakthroughs depend on it.
i like this quote from Obama,'You can’t let your failures define you – you have to let them teach you'. dont accept defeat, because i believe we can do wonders. 'our greatest glory is not in never failing, but rising up everytime we fail'. take responsibility, stay motivated, embrace your failure, learn from it and do not repeat the mistake over and over again. we all know this fact. let us just have a little more faith in the mantra.
to end off, i wish you all to fail. and to learn, and grow.
